Fly me to the moon.

I spent yesterday evening in the Astronomy Tower with Professor Sinistra and we captured the rotation of the night sky over Hogwarts. What is fascinating about this is the luminosity of the particular objects. As some of you may be aware, Betelgeuse, for example, has already supernova'd and we are now waiting for its dying light to reach earth. Some speculation is that it will create a brief illusion of two suns. The increased brightness of the stars apparent here lead to the question of whether smaller stars have possibly gone through a similar process. The clear light, however, makes this seem unlikely. I am looking to further inquiry on the subject in the coming weeks. Oh, yes, The Sun Also Rises is quite an interesting read. I imagine the Carrows will be quite fond of the Running of the Bulls in Pampalona as it appears muggles must have a death wish. Personally it sounds more cool to me than dodging bludgers. Fool-hardy people, muggles, but far more thrill-seekers. It shows their obvious lack of intellect against a wizard. Clearly.

WARDED TO MORAG
Do you want to come to the Astronomy Tower with me tonight?

WARDED TO GRYFFINDOR 7TH. [04 Jan 2012|09:48pm]

So am I the only who didn't get a detention? Must say -- very brave of you, Neville. Hope you're holding up all right. Same for you, Lavender. Roll call to see if everyone is all right? I've got some chocolate if anyone needs some bucking up. I'd offer brussels sprouts, but who really likes those?

The size and age of the Cosmos are beyond ordinary human understanding. Lost somewhere between immensity and eternity is our tiny planetary home. In a cosmic perspective, most human concerns seem insignificant, even petty. And yet our species is young and curious and brave and shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the Cosmos and our place within it, explorations that are exhilarating to consider. They remind us that humans have evolved to wonder, that understanding is a joy, that knowledge is prerequisite to survival. I believe our future depends powerfully on how well we understand this Cosmos in which we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky. - Carl Sagan, a muggle.

They are much cleverer than us, I think, listening to this class.

After handing in her newspaper clipping and note from St. Mungo's -- showing she fulfilled the coursework assigned over the holidays, Lilith proceeded to sit in the back of the Dark Arts class and doodle. At the end of class she shut her journal abruptly and left without a word to anyone else.

According to the prophet, I attempted to kill my father over the hols. I have the highest hopes you all had such exciting times over Crimbo. Alas, my nefarious plans did not come to fruition. I sincerely hope no one is moronic enough to bel-- Parkinson. However, something that did come to fruition is the attached. You will see that last night I observed two shooting stars in quick succession above our house in Buckinghamshire. Some -- Lavender Brown -- might say it is a good luck omen, but I have never put too much belief into mysticism of the stars. I prefer, as I am sure you all aware, to focus on the truths of the sky. Needless to say: it was beautiful. I suggest if you are a superstitious person to make a wish as we will all probably need a few or so as we return to Hogwarts. Did anyone else observe beautiful space phenomena or practice other academic pursuits during the break?

The owl was right, it's an upward fight. A hundred acres in my mind, small, early, and late all reasonable names, The rabbit is the one to blame. Can't keep my paws off you, These hives all look the same. I'm stuck on you, You're stuck to me: Together we'll make history
